No antenna works alone. VLBI requires international collaboration.
International VLBI Service for Geodesy and Astrometry (IVS) was established
in 1999 as an organization promoting global collaboration on VLBI observations.
IVS consists of national geodetic or space agencies of key countries. GSI
participates in IVS as a Network station, Correlator and Analysis center. GSI
also involved in its management by dispatching staff as an IVS board member.
In February 2002, GSI hosted the second IVS general meeting at Tsukuba,
Japan in conjunction with the Communication Research Laboratory (now:NICT).
International VLBI observations are now performed by IVS almost every day, somewhere in the world. GSI carries out about 50 international observations per year, serving as a core station in Asia.
