Kashima VLBI station (26m antenna) has been the reference of geodetic VLBI experiments in Japan. However, Kashima-26m is so old that its performance is not so high in the world VLBI standard, so the GSI established Tsukuba VLBI station (32m antenna) in 1998. The domestic VLBI tie experiment (Japan-tie) is intended to perform a highly precise tie among the large antennas, Tsukuba-32m, Kashima-26m and Kashima-34m. The purpose of the JPNTI sessions is to transfer the valuable result of long period by Kashima-26m and Kashima-34m to Tsukuba-32m. Four KSP stations also participate in this experiment.
